Following a first chapter presented at the École municipale des beaux-arts / galerie Édouard Manet in Gennevilliers, and with works produced for the occasion, this new chapter reveals our complex relationship with the characters who populate our imaginations. The proliferation of avatars, fur and pixels, allows us today to communicate emotions that are more powerful than the limits imposed by our flesh bodies. From these relationships inscribed in popular culture, new collective rituals are born, blending past and present. “J'ai pleuré devant la fin d'un manga” celebrates these alter egos and their importance in our personal and communal construction.

Through its intimate notebook, its living rooms, bedroom and donjon, the home of a mysterious inhabitant is revealed as you visit. Each room becomes a portal to worlds populated by manga avatars, magical chimeras and folk-tale characters. Like an echo of the transition from childhood to adulthood, or from the cute to the strange, this wander invokes our capacity for empathy and perpetual transformation.

This immersive exhibition features some 40 works (installations, videos, sculptures, paintings, textiles, VR) by 7 contemporary artists from Argentina, Canada, China, South Korea, France, the UK and Switzerland.

Exhibition title: from the lyrics of Lundi, by Johan Papaconstantino.
